Q:I wouldn't really see Elephant as a gay film, it only has one gay scene in it and we never find out the motive for the killings, whether it is homophobia or not, although it is sort of hinted upon when the principle is being threatened.
I would agree that Elephant isn’t an overtly gay film, and actually I wouldn’t even make the argument that the killers are gay, the scene where they shower together to me more seems like them wanting to get action before they die, I mostly included it because it evokes the subtle gay themes in Van Sant’s work.
(The last part of that sentence makes me sound like a giant douche ;D)
